Random Acts of Kindness

My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.
Dalai Lama

As I was driving into work this morning, which also happens to be the Dalai Lama’s 75th birthday, I thought about our world and how globalization and technology have brought us closer together. Sadly, the many political and warring hot spots around the world, the oil spill, and the weather were also in my thoughts. On the nights I watch the PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer, it pains me we cannot manage to work together. We can’t learn to tolerate somewhat and help whenever and wherever we can. That greed and personal agenda’s are the order of the day. We should celebrate our differences, not denigrate them. We should work together to make our world a better place.

I believe the tide is turning but we need to stay on top of it so we don’t forget that each and every one of us has the power every day to make our world a better place. Today, Se’Lah author of the NECESSARY ROOM has declared a “random acts of kindness” day in honor of the Dalai Lama’s birthday.

So in your travels today shed some kindness. Compliment a complete stranger on their hair or what they’re wearing. Pay for the coffee of the person behind you in line at the Wawa. Send a letter to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Call someone you know and tell them how much you love them. The list is endless.

Think about all we could do if we practiced mindful kindness every day of our lives. Think how much better our world would be.

Se’Lah I hope you don’t mind my borrowing the Dalai Lama’s quote from your post.

Namaste
Chris

Oh I mind - take it down immediately - LOL!
it's not my quote - I borrowed it from the Dalai Lama, and I didn't ask his permission, oops ;)

I love you Ms Chris ;). You always make me laugh and entertain my dry humour.

dear chris ~
thanks, thanks so much for your kind kind comments ... and thanks in particular for this wonderful post ...

one of my mantra's is 'go gently, speak kindly' ... so when i read first, the dalai lama's quote, and then your words, i felt instantly warmed and hopeful ... and will indeed celebrate the dalai lama's birthday and every day with se'lah's declaration!

with your blessing, i will post about this as well a bit later today ...

thank you for sharing your kindness!

It is easy to get discouraged with the violence and suffering in the world. Today, though, was a day to celebrate one of the great peacemakers. Did you have a chance to watch the celebration on the Dalai Lama's web site? If you haven't seen it, I linked to it on my Building Ordinary blog, and I linked to this post as well, because I thought my readers would enjoy finding you.

I can't believe my comment was gobbled up, never to be seen again. Sorry. It's such a pleasure having you as a friend and I applaud you for all that you do. This bridge of love was only possible because of friends like you. Love ya.

Chris, somehow blogger had a bug and I could not get to your latest post, so I'm sorry to comment only today. You are a kind kind person and as Se'lah said "the bridge of love" is only possible because of people like you. When we look around we realize that there are, by the end, so many kind people around us :-) Love and peace dear friend.
