It Must Be Me!

I don't think I've ever used my blog as a forum to vent about people's irresponsible behavior but today I just have to vent. Please bear with me. I promise it will not be a habit as I want An Inch of Time to be a place where people can come and relax.

My day began early this morning and after getting gas at my local Wawa, I decided I was long overdue for a Starbuck's Grande Caramel Cappaccino. It was just before 6 and the drive thru was empty. (A first for me as I'm always in a line when I come to Starbuck's.)  I swing up to the loudspeaker where a personable, pleasant but disembodied voice asks me how I am and how they can help me?

"I'd like a Grande Caramel Cappaccino, please?" I reply.

"Will there be anything else," the voice asks.

"No, that will be all, thank you."

"That will be four dollars and fifty-one cents," the voice says.

As my car slowly rolls up to the drive-through window, I notice Starbuck's trash receptacle has been moved from beyond the drive-thru window to in front of the drive-thru window. It's early and my neurons must not all be firing on all cylinders when a question forms inside my tiny brain, Why would they put the trash receptacle there?

My car glides to a stop and the drive-thru window magically folds open and a smile greets me on the face of a young girl, with ubiquitous headset glued to her head, waiting to take my money. As I pass her the money, I ask, "Why is the trash receptable there?" (Ever curious I am.)

She replies, "People keep giving us their trash and want us to dispose of it. So the trash receptacle has been moved so they can throw it away before they get to the window."

I look at her dumbfounded (yes, I occasionally do look dumbfounded) and reply, "You're kidding?"

"Nope," she responds. She then adds, "It's actually a health and safety issue," adding, "if (she names the company that monitors Starbuck's health and safety issues) were to see us taking trash from customers we would immediately be shut down."

I reply nicely, "So now I'm inconvenienced because some people think it's Starbuck's staff's responsibility to dispose of customers' trash because they're too lazy to do it themselves?"

While she was sympathetic to my comment, it annoys me to no end when people are not responsible for what is obviously their duty. In this case, the trash that collects in their car. I'm of the opinon these are the very same people who think nothing of flicking their cigarette butts out their car windows while driving. They also think rules apply to everyone else except them!

Am I the only one becoming more and more disgusted by rude, arrogant and irresponsible behavior?

In any event, thanks so much for letting me vent this morning. I feel much better now.

Namaste
Chris

We all have to vent sometimes! I always wonder about people who throw cigarettes out their windows. They must have no regard for any other people. Someone could be burned or it could start a fire. Oh don't get me started! I'm getting upset just thinking about it!

The cigarette butts out the window is one of my biggest pet peeves...esp when it lands on MY car!!!! I don't smoke for a reason, thank you very much!

but I digress....

I was just having this conversation with a friend on the phone yesterday....it seems as though society is becoming more and more rude and inconsiderate. It really is disheartening...not to mention annoying.

The cigarette thing makes me want to pull my hair out.
I climb a mountain near my house in the mornings, and it flabbergasts me when I see someone climbing and they have a cigarette in their mouth! Do they think they are being healthy? Does the climb cancel out the smoke? And I watch them throw the butt onto the dry DRY forest floor...it makes me want to scream!
So careless.
Those trees would light up like torches right now if they were exposed to a smouldering cigarette butt.
sssssssiiiiiggggggghhhhh
Ok, now I have had MY rant.
Thank you.
For letting me vent. lol
