River Blue Cafe

Early this morning, before people were up and about, Hubby treated me to breakfast at the River Blue Café, located at 51 Bridge Street, in Frenchtown, New Jersey.

This is my fourth trip to this wonderful café. My first visit was Christmas Eve morning when a friend and I stopped in for breakfast. I had a Burrito Vegetales and my friend had Florentine Benedict. Both were made with fresh ingredients and were excellent.

Whenever dining out, I try to keep my options open in case something more appetizing or different might entice the old taste buds. Today though my taste buds were hankering for French Toast.

Most restaurants have “specials” and it pays to peruse these offerings as it means the restaurant likes to step outside their usual menu offerings and try different things.

After giving their regular menu a cursory glance, I picked up the 5x7 white slip of paper with their “Specials.” I skimmed the sheet of paper and was almost at the bottom when my eyes stopped dead in their sockets and locked onto, “French Toast stuffed with Nutella and Bananas.”

As an aside, there are a few foods and condiments that when waved before my eyes render me putty in your hands. Nutella is one of those foods. On the off chance you might not know about Nutella, it is “hazelnut spread with skim milk & cocoa.” This stuff is deadly and addictive. Trust me, I know.

Getting back to breakfast. I think by now you know what I ordered. And let me tell you it didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed every last forkful. It had the right amount of sweetness and the bananas were a nice compliment to the Nutella.

Hubby had the blueberry pancakes with a side order of sausage. He passed a forkful over to me and they were also very good. The blueberries tasted fresh and the pancakes had a light, airy taste to them.

If you find yourself in the Frenchtown, NJ area, I highly recommend making it a point to stop by the River Blue Café. Food is very good, reasonably priced, and the wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Jim, the owner, has done a wonderful job at combining everything that makes a restaurant not only successful but provides a wonderful dining experience.

“Bon Appetit,” as Julia Child always said. Now where did I put that jar of Nutella?

Namaste
Chris

Oh yum! I'm a Nutella nut. HA! Adam loves it, too, and I always make a point of being the one to spread a spoonful on his bread so I can take a spoonful (or two or three) just for meeeee!

The french toast looks divine. I'm pretty sure I can smell it. :o)

That looks like such a cute place! I love the different color benches outside. It would be nice to sit outside there in the summer. I'm so going to try making that French toast with Nutella and banana. Yum!
