A Clean Slate
The start of another new year. A clean slate to create a life of your choosing. This isn’t a post about resolutions since we’re told every year that resolutions fall by the wayside long before the month of January is over.
Just the other day I got to thinking about the last three years of my life and they haven’t been good ones; none of them my own fault either.
In 2009, I had a work-related injury that kept me out of work for two weeks and sidelined my personal life for another six.
In 2010, I was involved in a serious auto accident that almost claimed my life and so far I seem to be doing well. The only thing it did claim was my new car. Two and a half months later, I was laid off from my job.
And 2011, saw me still unemployed but certainly not for a lack of trying. So be it.
All in all I am very much aware these last three years could have been far worse; a fact for which I am eternally grateful and thankful. But I’ve decided this will be my year. For what? Don’t know. Haven’t figured it out yet.
Like a lot of people who’ve been unemployed for a long time, I’ve been depressed, angry, wondering, searching, and worrying. But in a recent conversation with my sister-in-law who said, about herself, “I’m right where I’m supposed to be,” I had an Oprah Winfrey “AH-HA” moment!
“I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”
Maybe that’s the answer. Maybe I need to keep this in mind as I continue to search for another job this coming year. And I know it will come . . . eventually, for as my good friend Se’Lah says, “nothing stays the same.”
While I choose not to look at the glass as half empty, lately Jospeh Campbell’s “follow your bliss” keeps rattling around inside my head.
These quotes are not resolutions but affirmations to keep me on a path toward something very rewarding. I have to have faith and be positive. I have no idea what the next 363 days (it's leap year) will hold for me but I’m looking forward to whatever the future holds. I hope you are as well.
