When I was younger

When I was younger
the world was
smaller, safer, simpler,
less frenzied and chaotic.

Little did we know
identity theft
global warming
AIDS
terrorism
child predators
and the Medusa of technology
loomed menacingly on the horizon.

Osama bin Laden
Saddem Hussein
Okalhoma City
9/11
Hurricane Katrina
Columbine
Iraq and Afghanistan
How much more
can the world take?

Killing our planet
at a phenomenal rate,
wasting irreplaceable,
life-sustaining natural resources
faster than ever.

Morphing into 24/7,
multi-tasking automatons
without a moment's respite
tethered to email,
welded to cell phones
believing
we are in touch.

A greedy, self-centered
demanding society
consumes us like rust
eroding a piece of metal.

I wish the world
was smaller, safer, simpler,
less frenzied and chaotic . . . once again.

Namaste

Oh, Chris, that was SO Greg and filled to the brim with truths? Isnit it bizarre how we spent so much time outside being free when growing up, & now it's best not to let your kids outside unless you're with them? SO mich has turned scary I these times. I wish for the 'safe' ole days,, too.

Thanks friend.
